Evaluation
In my final product, the theme of Diversity has been explored in multiple forms through varying methods. The more obvious idea on how Diversity has been represented is through my model being a direct portrayal of a diverse population of different races as I used a varying amount of skin-coloured hues for the different parts of my model. Diversity has also been explored through the level of contrast I have created in my work, the 4 different styled and coloured backgrounds, the variety of shades and hues and composition all play a part in maximising the level of contrast in my work.
During my project, I have been able to meet the brief requirements and also my own personal requirements. I have explored the theme of Diversity in a varying amount of contexts which I have stated above and have generated and developed these ideas thoroughly in response to the brief itself. I have also consistently reflected on my work and sufficiently documented my production and design process while also reflecting on my practical skills and research to ensure that I was able to create the best response to the brief possible. My work has also been presented up to industry standards as I have exported it in HD format which is the professional resolution when presenting your work in the industry.
I have also met my own personal requirements which were aspirations I made for my project in the planning phase. These requirements consisted of me developing my 2D skills, 3D modelling, texturing skills and UV mapping. These are all skills that I have improved on and executed during the production segment of my project. I improved on my 2D skills by creating my 4 varying backgrounds in Photoshop which has expanded my 2D skills and more specifically my knowledge of the Photoshop software. Although I didn't do much texturing or UV mapping in Maya, I still exploited these skills while composing my scene for my final render by texturing and UV mapping the front face of a poly cube for my backgrounds. I also used Hypershade to add new colour materials to my model however, due to my idea change I didn't plan to add any textures to my model and instead used only colours to create the contrast I originally planned to create. Overall, my 3D modelling skills improved the most as I experienced a lot more issues in this area than anywhere else which resulted in me having to conduct a lot of problem solving. I picked up a lot of tips and tricks while fixing my mistakes while 3D modelling which ultimately resulted in me improving my problem solving skills and my modelling skills as I will know how to combat these issues in the future.
Throughout this project, I think I performed great overall considering the changes I had to apply to my idea. At the start of production, I was on task and on track to finishing what I had planned to do. Once I started working on my 3D model, I was thrown off track and I wasn't coinciding with my schedule which is what brung down my performance however, I was able to work around it and alter my idea. Regarding to the brief requirements, I performed well against them. I was able to generate and develop an idea linking to Diversity in response to a brief criteria.
Something that positively impacted my progress during production would be my extensive research. I conducted a lot of research during production which provided a positive impact on my progress and idea overall. I used a lot of tutorials and articles to talk me through certain skills and how to fix certain software and hardware issues. The thing that negatively impacted my progress was everything to do with my 3D modelling, I managed to model all of parts I planned to in the end however I had trouble trying to connect the parts together. A lack of in-depth research also negatively impacted my work as I was able to work around every other problem I cam across however I wasn't able to solve this one which would've been easier to solve if I had done more targeted research in planning stage of my project. The biggest issue I came across was also bridging the limbs of my model together, this is the only set-back that I experienced. I did do some research on how to attach the body parts together and I tried multiple methods to see if any of them would work, but I wasn't able to overcome the issue. Changing my idea was the only option for me, as at least I would still be able to have all of the components of my design that I planned to have originally even if they weren't attached to each other. I could argue that this also positively impacted my work because the end result made my design more abstract which is the theme I decided to go with before we even started production.
Compared to my original planning, my final outcome isn't all that different apart from the idea changes that I have identified specifically on my Practical Skills page. I stuck with the abstract theme and the way I would explore diversity; through shape and colour. I also combined two accents of my one-page treatments into one and included the use of skin coloured limbs to represent race. The only big change that was made between my original planning and my final outcome was that the body was supposed to be attached, also, the change to creating four different backgrounds rather than just the one.
Research is one the things that I mentioned that positively affected my progress in production. My research helped out a lot during production and taught me what I needed to know within the time given, I could have done some more in-depth research during production to aid my progress further however al the research I did do was beneficial for my progress. An example of this would be my research for modelling feet, I had no clue how to do this before hand and didn't have a clue where to start. After my research, I was able to create the feet for my model in no time which opened up more time for me to start modelling the hands for my model whereas if I was working at the same pace without the research I did, I most likely wouldn't have finished what I needed too.
Receiving feedback from peers was helpful as they often identified things that I had missed while checking over my work. It's good to get a second, unbiased opinion because you are more than likely to judge your work better or worse than other people would.

After gaining this feedback from my peers, I was able to develop and improve my existing work before I moved on to another task to make sure my work was of the best standard. A prime example of how this feedback helped me would be that someone had pointed out that my model was very rough and should be smoother. I then went on to fix and improve on this which resulted in a better look for my model overall, adding to it's realism.
I gained a lot of 2D skills and knowledge this project which is something I haven't had much experience in before as I have often worked in 3D formats. I was able to familiarise myself with the selections and tools in Photoshop to create certain background effects such as the Liquid Marbling paint effect which is showcased in my final products on one of the backgrounds. In Maya, I was mostly developing and adapting the skills I had already learnt to fit what I wanted to create however I gained and also developed the idea of body modelling overall as it's something that I haven't ever touched on. If I was to do this project over again, I would be ten times more confident creating what I did during this project due to how much I learnt throughout production.
If there was one skill that I wish I could have developed further, it would be 'bridging' in Maya. This minor skill would have made my progress so much smoother and would have helped me to stick closer to my original planning. Animation is also something I would like to touch on in the future as I have little to no experience with animating however, I do have some knowledge already from previous workshops I have been involved in. This is something I would like to develop in the future because it would be good to have all-around knowledge in a variety of formats and softwares rather than having a specialism in just one format and nothing in another.
In my opinion, my final outcome isn't what I imagined I would end up creating at the start of my production but I still believe it is just as effective. I made sure to export all of my files in HD format to make sure that it fits with professional standards. My model itself isn't 100% perfect as there is still some areas that could have done with a bit more work and time. My outcome fits professional standards with the file formats and size however my practical skills might fall just behind industry standards.
If I were to redo this project, I would make sure to do a lot more research during my planning, experiment with more practical skills, even out my schedule accordingly and use all of the tips and tricks I know now to avoid making any major mistakes during my production.
